Temporary Rental Assistance

Two programs are available for temporary rental assistance.  The Housing and Transitional Services (HATS) program provides one year of rental assistance for homeless families.  The Homeless Families with Children program provides up to two years of rental assistance at the Lake Park Apartments in Tumwater.  These programs are described below:

Housing and Transitional Services (HATS):  Program provides 12 months of rental assistance with case management services.  Participants are required to attend monthly educational workshops and participate in case management.  Eligibility requirements are similar to the Tenant-Based Rental Assistance programs.  Participants locate their own housing that meets program criteria.

The program is for homeless families with children only.

Participants must be working towards securing employment, enrolling in school, or be in a WorkFirst program before the 12 months of assistance ends.

A portion of the family's income will be placed into a savings account each month.  These savings will be released back to the family at the end of the 12 month period.

Homeless Families with Children:  Program provides up to 2 years of rental assistance at the Lake Park Apartments located in Tumwater.  Picture   Participants pay 30 percent of their income for rent, and work with case managers to develop a housing stability plan.  This plan focuses on addressing the issues that lead to homelessness and to develop financial self-sufficiency.

The goal of this program is to enable families to achieve a greater degree of self-sufficiency by the end of the 2-year period, with less dependency on support services and housing subsidies.

Support staff will work with each family to develop an individualized plan that address specific needs, including searching for employment and referrals to other services in the community.
