Rental Assistance Waiting List:

Funding for the Rental Assistance programs is limited.  The demand for assistance is far greater than the resources that are available.  As a result, the waiting list for assistance can be anywhere from three to five years.

Identification Code not found:

"Identification Code not found" means that your application could not be located on line.  There could be several reasons for this.  The most common reasons are: 1) your social security number was entered incorrectly into our database, or 2) you left your social security number off of your application, or 3) we could not read the social security number that you wrote on your application.  After you submit your application, please allow 3 weeks for the information to be entered in our database.  To verify your application, please contact us by e-mail, phone, or in writing.  For contact information, click here.

Have not received assistance:

There can be many reasons why an applicant can be on the waiting list for a long time (5 years or more) without receiving assistance.  Some of the more common reasons are as follows:

You do not have a "priority" or a "preference".  If this is the case, we will keep your application on file, but it is unlikely that you will receive assistance unless all people with a preference or priority have already been served.

You may have an un-paid damage claim from a previous rental assistance contract.

You may already be living in subsidized housing, also referred to as "project based" assistance.

You have moved without notifying our office of your new address, or have repeatedly not responded to requests for information.  If you have moved since you applied to the waiting list without notifying our office, you must update your application by submitting a Change of Circumstance form.

Passed over for assistance:

There can be many reasons why someone who applied after you may have received assistance before you.  Sometimes we need to skip ahead on the waiting list to find applicants who meet eligibility requirements for targeted rental assistance programs such as the Mainstream, Family Unification, or VIPS programs.  You also may have been skipped over because you do not have a "priority" or a "preference".
